Peony flower require regular care to remain healthy and produce beautiful flowers. Water newly planted peonies consistently, while established plants generally need additional watering during dry periods. Apply compost or a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring if the soil needs it. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages leafy growth at the expense of flowers. Support heavy blooms with plant rings or stakes when necessary. Remove faded flowers and cut back herbaceous peony foliage in autumn after it dies back. Keep the area around the plants free of weeds and debris.
