The sweater had three big red buttons. Or, it used to.
On Monday, Momo noticed — one button was missing!
"Oh no," said Momo. "My sweater will be cold!"
He looked under the rug. He looked in his honey jar. No button.
He asked his friend Pip the sparrow. "Have you seen a red button?"
Pip chirped, "Is it the shiny thing in the garden?"
In the garden, Momo found his button, but it wasn't alone. A family of ants was using it as a round table.
"Excuse me," said Momo, very politely. "That's my button."
The ants looked up. "But it's our best table!" they squeaked.
Momo thought. He took off his sweater. "You can have this thread for your tablecloth," he said. "And I can have my button back?"
The ants clapped.
Momo sewed his button back on. The sweater was warm again, but even better — now every time he wore it, he had three buttons and four tiny friends having tea on a table in the garden, waving hello.
