Getting that message from our overseas buyer last month was genuinely gutting because the product itself was perfectly fine, it was the packaging that had taken enough damage during the voyage that they felt they couldn't put it on shelves and from their perspective that's a completely fair call even if it stings from ours. We've done maybe fifteen sea shipments over the past two years and this is the first time we've had a rejection but instead of feeling relieved that it took this long I'm now wondering whether we've just been lucky and whether the underlying problem has been there all along waiting for a rougher voyage or a longer transit to reveal itself. The frustrating part is that we followed the same process we always follow so either something changed in the conditions of this particular shipment or our process was never quite good enough and we didn't know it. I went back to basics and started researching tips for protecting goods during sea transport specifically for exporters operating out of the UAE because I wanted guidance that accounted for the starting conditions here rather than somewhere with a completely different climate profile. I found an article on khaleejweekly.com that addressed this from a local exporter's angle and it raised a few points about desiccants, container placement and inner packaging reinforcement that I hadn't thought about seriously before Check this guide even after two years of doing this. I'm revising our packing spec before the next shipment goes out and I'm also going to have a more direct conversation with our freight forwarder about container condition checks because I don't think we've been asking the right questions at that stage of the process.
